Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has firmly denied reports suggesting that the country has agreed to accept violent criminal and illegal alien Abrego Garcia.

The Minister in a statement on his official Facebook page, emphasized that this position has been “directly and unambiguously conveyed to US authorities.”

He further explained that Ghana’s previous understanding with the United States to receive a limited number of non-criminal West Africans was based purely on African solidarity and humanitarian principles not as a blanket acceptance policy for deportees.

“Ghana strongly objects to these misleading media reports,” the Minister stated, adding that the agreement would not be expanded beyond its original humanitarian scope.

“Ghana is not accepting Abrego Garcia. He cannot be deported to Ghana.” he added

Kilmar Abrego Garcia is identified as a member of the violent MS-13 gang and is reportedly linked to serious crimes, including human trafficking, alien smuggling, domestic abuse, and predatory acts involving minors.

Under President Trump’s renewed crackdown on illegal immigration, individuals like Garcia are being deported to countries that have entered humanitarian repatriation agreements with the United States, including Ghana. However, Ghana’s Foreign Minister clarified that individuals like Garcia do not fall under the criteria of persons allowed into Ghana.
