Ghana supplying cashew needs of the world

The Ghana Export Promotion Authority has revealed that Ghana is supplying 43.8 percent of the world’s need for cashew.
Madam Gifty Klenam, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the authority made this revelation on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben, afternoon socio-political  show hosted by Dr. Cann on Accra-based Happy FM.
She revealed that in no time the crop from Ghana has become a delicacy for the world.
She claimed aside exporting the cashew for foreign exchange, the authority in collaboration with the Cashew Development Board are working to add value to the product.
The CEO who was a former legislator said already there are plans far fetch in the Brong Ahafo region to achieve this goal.
She said zeal to create more jobs for the teeming unemployed youth in the farming sector of the economy has guided the measures put in place for the development of the industry.
According to her, the success chalked in the sector is part of the president Nana Addo Dankwa Addo’s vision to create alternative livelihoods for farmers in the country.
She said the country has been overly dependent on cash crops like Cocoa and its about time, new avenues are created to create opportunities for the youth who desire to go into farming.
