Ghanaians can demand accountability, if they pay the right taxes- Kusi Boafo

The Chief Executive Officer of Public Sector Reform; Thomas Kusi Boafo has reminded Ghanaian tax payers that they can only demand accountability from government, if they pay the right amount of taxes for the development of the country.
He says  paying the right amount of taxes will led to Ghanaians demanding accountability from government for the taxes they pay.
The economist and former lecturer at the Kumasi Polytechnic in the Ashanti Region said Ghanaians can only take actions against contractors who provide them with shoddy jobs if they pay the right amount of taxes to enable them demand accountability.
Once Ghanaians are not paying the right amount of taxes for the development of the country, governments will continue to treat Ghanaians without accountability he noted.
Mr. Kusi Boafo made this comment on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show hosted by Kwame Afrifa Mensah on Accra-based Happy FM.
He said Ghanaians can only seek accountability on how their taxes are used by the government if they pay the right amount of tax for the development of the nation.
‘Until Ghanaians pay the right tax they will continue to get this same way of system of governance of no accountability on the taxes they pay.’
If Ghanaians pay the right amount of tax and these taxes are not properly used they can hold the governments accountable by demanding accountability.
He says paying the right amount of tax will embolden many Ghanaians to sue contractors who engaged in the practice of executing shoddy jobs in the country.
‘Ghana’s economy stands on three sectors namely Agriculture, Industry and Services and if these sectors of the economy don’t grow then the economy will not see real growth’ he said.
He further described the budget presented to Parliament by the Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta as a budget for restoring hope and an indication that the economy is not yet dead.
