The Director of Creative Arts at the National Commission on Culture, Socrate Safo, has acknowledged significant progress in Ghana’s creative art industry, despite acknowledging that there is still room for improvement. In an exclusive interview on Happy 98.9 FM with Reynolds Agyemang on Fact Sheet on Saturday, August 31, Mr. Safo noted that the industry has undergone substantial changes in recent years, particularly in terms of logistics, marketing strategies, and regulatory frameworks.

He recalled that in the past, the industry was hindered by a lack of resources, including cameras, lighting, and sound equipment, as well as the absence of legislative guidance. This led to unregulated practices and ineffective marketing strategies.

However, Mr. Safo highlighted that the passage of the Creative Arts Bill and the Film Bill has brought about significant positive change, establishing regulations and standards for the industry. The Creative Arts Bill, in particular, has set criteria for film professionals, ensuring that only qualified individuals can claim to be directors or producers.

While acknowledging the progress made, Mr. Safo expressed hope that the institutions responsible for implementing these bills will soon commence operations to fully realize the benefits of the legislation.
