Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has thrown his weight behind the newly designated National Day of prayer, set to be observed annually on July 1.
This initiative, spearheaded by President John Mahama, aims to foster national unity and gratitude among Ghanaians.
During a courtesy visit by the event’s planning committee on June 5, Akufo-Addo commended Mahama for making the celebration a reality.
He emphasized Ghana’s strong tradition of peaceful political transitions and the need to recognize such blessings.
While he will be unable to attend the event due to a scheduled month-long medical review abroad, Akufo-Addo expressed his endorsement of the occasion.
Chairman of the planning committee, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, reiterated that the celebration is non-partisan, with attendees encouraged to wear white as a symbol of unity.
The event will bring together Christians and Muslims, featuring keynote messages from Cardinal Appiah Turkson and prayers led by the Chief Imam across the country’s 16 regions.
