Bismark Brown, the host of #EpaHoaDaben on Happy FM has called on the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to be proactive in their fight against assault on Journalists.

According to Bismark Brown, the GJA cannot just be announcing media blackout on person’s connected to assaults on journalist without taking significant steps to solve the reccuring problem.

He said the GJA has adopted a lazy man’s approach by just releasing press statements to condemn assaults on journalists and also announcing media blackouts against people in power believed to be behind the attack.

“Assault against journalists have been going on for far too long and the GJA isn’t doing anything better to tackle the issue rather than issuing press statement to condemn the attack and also announcing media blackout against politicians believed to be behind the attack.”

“I want to ask the GJA if the strategy they have adopted to fighting assault against Journalists is working or not. Is the media blackout and press statements yielding any results?” Brown asked the GJA on the #EpaHoaDaben show on Happy FM.

He urged them to be pragmatic in their dealings because the culture of issuing out press releases has not solved the issue.

“How is this blackout changing the narrative about journalists being assaulted? I’m telling them to be a little bit pragmatic because what they are doing is just using a lazy man’s approach which has not yielded any results.”
