The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) is planning to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Turkish Olympic Committee which will provide technical support and world-class facilities as the country prepares to host the 2023 Africa Games.

Mohammed Mahadi met with officials of the Turkish Olympic Committee on Wednesday in Istanbul, Turkey to hold discussions on the collaboration between the two bodies.

Speaking in an interview with Ghana’s number One Sports Station Happy 98.9FM, Mohammed Mahadi opened up on the collaboration between the two countries.

“We have two major tournaments in front of us that’s 2022 Commonwealth Games and 2023 Africa Games and most of the challenges we are facing is infrastructures and equipment’s to train.
“We are having a discussion with a lot of National Olympics Committee to open their doors for us to have exchange program and also sign MoUs so that we can go there to train”.

“The reason why we went to Turkey is that they are looking up to qualify almost 100 athletes to Olympics games so Turkey is ready to welcome Ghana to prepare towards those tournaments”, he added.

Why the collaboration?

As the GOC head towards 2023 Africa Games most of our facilities to host the games may not be ready for an effective 18 months training and preparation.

The visionary leader of the Ghana Olympics Committee, president Ben Nunoo Mensah has tasked the International Relations Subcommittee under the chairmanship of Mohammed Mahadi, the 3rd vice president of Ghana Olympics Committee to do everything possible to get the advanced countries to open elite sports centers for our various sporting disciplines that will fetch the African Games in 2023 and facilitate various MoUs that will for the benefits of both countries.
