The Ministry of Education has dismissed reports suggesting that the government plans to abolish teacher trainee allowances. According to the Ministry, these claims originated from a statement made by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu during a discussion with the Executives of the Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF).
Clarifying the Minister’s remarks, the Ministry in a press statement emphasized that the government remains committed to supporting students in Colleges of Education and is open to exploring ways to enhance financial assistance. It noted that if necessary, an improved student loan scheme could be considered as an additional support measure.
The Minister also assured that the government would maintain the allowances until all stakeholders reach a firm agreement after further deliberations. Addressing the reports, the Ministry pointed out that a front-page publication in the February 4, 2025 edition of The Daily Graphic had carried a misleading headline, which suggested the removal of the allowances communication for accurate information.
