Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, says government is stepping up its fight against illegal mining (galamsey) to safeguard Ghana’s forests and water bodies.

Speaking after a donation from the Ghana Gold Board on Monday, September 15, Mr. Buah reaffirmed government’s resolve: “We are determined to ensure that our forests are green and our water is blue.”

He announced a new initiative to geofence excavators before they leave the port, a move designed to prevent their use in galamsey operations.

“For eight years, tracking of excavators was virtually non-existent. Today, we are working with the Ministry of Transport to geofence all excavators,” he revealed.

The Minister also disclosed that the Attorney General’s office is actively involved in prosecuting illegal miners, emphasizing that government is pursuing a coordinated approach.

“We are taking enforcement, technology, and legal accountability together to restore our environment,” Mr. Buah stressed.
