Gov’t will never run to IMF – Musah Superior

Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Forestry Commission and the NPP General Secretary hopeful, Iddrisu Musah Superior has insisted that the reigning Akufo Addo administration would never rely on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for loans anymore.

The former Mayor of Tamale Metropolis described Ghana’s economy as ‘resilient’ as he reiterated that, Ghana’s economic woes was indifferent to the economic challenges of the world’s biggest economies due to the impacts of the Covid-19 global pandemic.

“I will disagree with anyone who would say government is doing nothing. Government has and is doing a lot for the economy to get back on track post the Covid effects. I want Ghanaians to know Government is no longer going to the IMF and we have several options and foundations laid to make this possible,” he said.

In an interview with Don Kwabena Prah on Happy98.9 FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ socio-political talk show, he shared, “One of the several options is that we want to gather 2billion dollars to pump into the economy with the introduction of the e-levy. When we pump it effectively it’s going to appreciate the cedi against the dollar. Appointees of Government including myself have sacrificed 30% of our salaries to the economy. A number of my colleagues together with myself have shared that it’s going to be tough but Ghana is tougher so we need to sacrifice. Any Ghanaian who doesn’t admit that it is a difficult time does not understand the global politics because it is the external factors that are affecting the Ghanaian economy.”

Musah Superior further recounted that the country’s economy was on the right path during the NPP’s first tenure in power. “2017 through to 2019 we didn’t hear this noise because we were on track. It was just within 2020 when everything changed and the work economic behavior is also being fed by the behavior of international politics”

“We should be thankful that we have such an indefatigable leader who is mobilizing the efforts of the Ghanaian energy so that we are able to get out of the Covid problems sooner,” he added.
