The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has issued a stern warning to DecoBuild, the operators at Madina Lorry Park, demanding an immediate halt to the collection of unauthorised tolls from commercial drivers.
The Union revealed that DecoBuild has introduced a pay-as-you-go toll system in recent months, significantly increasing the financial burden on drivers.
Instead of the standard one-time daily toll, drivers are now required to make multiple payments throughout the day.
During a press conference in Accra on Friday, May 9, GPRTU gave the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly a one-week ultimatum to intervene and enforce proper toll regulations at the station.
The Union also cautioned that if the matter is not addressed, transport fares may be increased by 10% as operators seek to recover their losses.
They expressed hope that the relevant authorities would take immediate action to resolve the issue.
