E-VAT Technical Committee Member under the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Opoku Afriyie Asante, has assured businesses the authority has the capacity and system for every level.

According to him, the authority has rolled out a free system, software and an integrated system for various types and groups of companies to enhance tax assessment by the Ghana Revenue Authority through the newly introduced electronic VAT system.

In an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, Mr. Asante reiterated that the new electronic VAT invoice which is currently being implemented, will allow the GRA connect the invoicing system of the Commissioner-General with taxpayers and businesses.

“We have the free invoicing system where tax payers who received manual invoices, can call GRA to take you through the steps for you to acquire that free system which is also online. There’s also what can be installed on your various machines where you can log-in online and after can be used offline even without internet,” he explained.

He furthered, “We also have one’s for the big companies like Malls, Shoprite and the others who have their own systems and for them, what happens is that they just have to integrate their system with that of the Commissioner-General’s before they can issue their invoice. That is what we call the certified invoicing system. So, when they integrate and issue their invoice, it is being certified by the Commissioner General.”

Earlier, Mr. Asante disclosed that some 50 groups have been selected to partake in the first phase of the E-VAT with plans to gradually incorporate other groups by 2023.

“Currently all V80 registered tax payers will soon be required to issue electronic or certified e-voicing system. We’re starting with are 50 tax payers. So, we have selected 50 tax payers to start this process with them. So, when anyone goes to buy a product from these selected groups, you won’t receive the regular invoice but you will receive additional features that indicates the Commissioner General’s new system has been issued. We have two systems with the eVAT,” he said.
