The National Labour Commission (NLC) has secured an interlocutory injunction against the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).
The injunction, issued by the High Court, Industrial and Labour Division in Accra on June 5, 2025, immediately restrains the association and its members from continuing their industrial action.
This legal move follows the NLC’s declaration that the strike was illegal and its directive for GRNMA to call it off.
The court ruling, presided over by Justice Priscilla Dikro Ofori, supports the NLC’s stance, requiring all executives, officers, and members of GRNMA to cease their strike activities.
The injunction will be in effect for ten days, after which the NLC must reapply on notice to GRNMA if further legal action is necessary.
The nurses and midwives had initiated the strike to protest delays in implementing their 2024 Collective Agreement, which includes unpaid allowances and delayed postings.
Their withdrawal of services has significantly affected hospitals, overwhelming emergency rooms and limiting outpatient care.
