The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has proudly announced an exciting 30,000 km overland trip to be embarked on today, Sunday, September 8, 2024 by renowned adventure group, Wanderlust Ghana.

The announcement was made today at a take-off ceremony for the expedition, which will start from Accra, Ghana, passing through several countries in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East before returning to Ghana.

Expressing the Ghana Tourism Authority’s excitement, GTA Chief Executive Officer Akwasi Agyeman described the adventure as a ‘crazy’ one, achievable only by individuals willing to push beyond the ordinary. “These are the individuals embarking on this crazy journey; I call it crazy because only people with such adventurous spirits can undertake it.”

Mr. Agyeman added that this partnership marks the beginning of a longstanding alliance, aimed at positioning Ghana advantageously on the world map. “This partnership is invaluable to the GTA because it places Ghana firmly as a top tourism destination globally. We hope to see more tourists visiting Ghana, especially for our December in GH event. The media coverage from all over the world will showcase Ghana’s culture and heritage.”

The leader of Wanderlust Ghana, Kwabena Peprah, expressed gratitude for the support from the GTA and other entities that have made the 30-country trip possible. According to Mr. Peprah, what began as a leisure activity for travel enthusiasts has now become a highly anticipated adventure worldwide. “Our first 10,000KM trip from Accra to the United Kingdom wasn’t for publicity or fame; we simply enjoyed the idea of exploring different parts of the world.”

He revealed that the previous trip, which covered Accra to London, garnered global attention, including the Ghana Tourism Authority. Discussions between Wanderlust Ghana and GTA revealed numerous opportunities for promoting Ghana. “When we returned to Ghana, GTA contacted us, saying, ‘You did this without informing us, but we’d love to partner with you on future trips to showcase Ghana globally.’ It made a lot of sense.” he said.

This partnership follows an earlier tour dubbed ‘Coast to Culture,’ during which the group explored all of Ghana’s tourist sites.

Along with other partners, GTA aims to support Wanderlust Ghana in highlighting Africa’s potential as a tourism and investment hub, sharing Ghana’s rich culture, vibrant history, and tourism appeal with the world.

The team sets off tonight from the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, traveling through Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia, Angola, DRC, Congo, Cameroon, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and back to Ghana.
