Happy FM to support national road safety campaign with drivers’ summit

In line with the 2019 Road Safety Campaign by the National Road Safety Commission Authority (NRSA) this November, Happy FM, Ghana’s favourite radio station will be initiating a driver’s summit campaign which seeks to educate road users on the safety measures to abide by during the festive season.

The 2019 Road Safety Christmas Campaign dubbed “Stop Road Accidents Now, Before it stops You” was launched in the month of November to outdoor key actions aimed at reducing the risk to road traffic crashes and casualties often associated with the festive season.

According to the National Road Safety Commission Authority (NRSA), even though the number of crashes and injuries from road accidents has increased in the year 2019, there has been a significant decrease in the number of persons killed in road accidents.

The Director General of NRSA, Ing. Mary Obiri Yeboah, however, advised that all stakeholders had the responsibility to “sustain and reduce it[number of persons killed in accidents] further, as we hit the busy end of the year”.

“A crash-free yuletide is possible provided road users will renew their pledge to be more disciplined”, she added.

Happy FM, as part of its corporate social responsibility activities aims to support the road safety campaign by enlightening loyal listeners with daily road safety tips on the various programs aired by the station.

Furthermore, the station will visit the various lorry stations to engage with both drivers and passengers on the dangers of bad road habits and ways to prevent accidents.

Programmes Manager for Happy FM, Mr. Emmanuel Akrumah highlighted the motive of this campaign as well as other activities that will headline it.

“We have observed that the yuletide season is mostly characterized by road accidents because drivers do not heed to traffic rules and regulations. And with so many people travelling during this season, we find it very important to create the awareness around road safety. We have edifying activities such as outreach programmes and the involvement of accident survivors to headline this campaign”, he said.

He urged all stakeholders to support this campaign in any way they can to ensure that cases of road accidents are reduced.
