Happy98.9 FM held the first counseling session for couples ahead of the 2025 Happy Valentine’s Mass Wedding, to prepare couples for a lifelong journey together.

The first session, held recently, focused on the “Foundation of Marriage,” with esteemed counselors Rev. Kofi Annan and Rev. Gabriel Sekyi-Yorke, Senior Pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, sharing insights and guidance.

Rev. Kofi Annan emphasized the importance of marriage, citing companionship, fulfillment of God’s word, and pro-creation as key reasons. He also highlighted the significance of marriage in building families and communities, stressing that it is an institution created by God with numerous benefits.

The interactive session saw couples actively participating, particularly during the question-and-answer segment. Topics such as finances, sex in marriage, and gender roles were discussed, with Rev. Gabriel Sekyi-Yorke offering sage advice.

“Couples are two individuals with different backgrounds, behavior patterns, and attitudes. There should be a level of understanding,” he noted. Rev. Sekyi-Yorke also encouraged couples to recognize and appreciate their differences, rather than allowing them to become sources of conflict.

He further emphasized the importance of effective communication, saying, “Talk about gender roles and responsibilities, don’t dwell on the weaknesses more than their strengths. If possible, overlook their weaknesses and encourage them.”

Happy FM’s Valentine Mass Wedding counseling sessions are designed to equip couples with the knowledge necessary to build strong, healthy marriages. The sessions will continue in the lead-up to the wedding ceremony, covering topics such as communication, conflict resolution, and financial management.
