The Ministry of Health has announced plans to investigate issues raised in an investigative report published by The Fourth Estate concerning the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge.
In a statement signed by Tony Goodman, Head of Health Training Institutions and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, the Ministry said it has taken note of the report, which has been widely circulated on various social media platforms, and expressed sympathy with patients and relatives who may have experienced any form of unprofessional conduct in health facilities across the country.
The Ministry reiterated government’s commitment to reducing the stress and financial burden patients encounter in accessing healthcare services, while stressing that it was deeply concerned and surprised by some of the revelations contained in the investigative piece.
According to the statement, the Ministry considers the issues raised as serious and deserving of a comprehensive and impartial examination.
As a result, steps are being taken to constitute an investigative committee to look into the matter.
The committee is expected to submit its findings within fourteen (14) working days.
The Ministry of Health has also called for the full cooperation of all relevant stakeholders, including The Fourth Estate, to help establish the facts and provide any additional information necessary to ensure accountability and improve service delivery within Ghana’s health system.
