Heavy meals are considered as breakfast – Dietician explains
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

Dietician and Food Researcher, Benedicta Kessewa, has explained that a healthy breakfast can either be comprised of light or heavy meals.

Addressing the popular notion, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”, she explained breakfast as food that provides energy for people to carry out their daily activities.

According to her, all kinds of meals, whether light or heavy can be eaten as breakfast so far as it is eaten in right proportions.

“Breakfast is not light food only but any food which gives us energy. You can eat kenkey for breakfast but you should consider the quantity and what you eat with the kenkey. All individuals must also know their bodies and this will inform what you eat for breakfast. Someone may be okay with porridge or tea but others will be okay with kenkey or waakye for breakfast. But, we should make sure every meal is balanced,” she told Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show.

The dietician advised Ghanaians to eat healthy and prevent ill health in 2023.

She reiterated the importance of eating wholesome meals which do not harm the body. She advised against meals with high levels of sugar, fats, fast food joints and meat.

With high blood pressure on the rise amongst Ghanaians, she advised against the overuse of unnatural spices as the salts in them are detrimental to health.

Benedicta counseled Ghanaians to eat more fruits and vegetables as they protect the body against diabetes and cancer.
