Dr. Roberta Lamptey, a consultant family Physician and Diabetologist at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, has advised against eating carbohydrates in bigger quantities.

According to her carbohydrates contain too much sugar and starch and makes digestion difficult especially when consumed in bigger quantities.

She said the portion of carbohydrates such as banku shouldn’t be bigger than the size of fish or meat on the same plate.

Specifically Dr. Roberta Lamptey told Fati Shaibu-Ali in an interview on the Happy Morning Show that the size of banku one eats shouldn’t be bigger than one egg.

She added that late night eating could be detrimental to one’s health and ideally one’s last meal should be by 3pm. This according to her, is because, the body begins to slow down around that time. Dr. Lampety who is also with CREATE Ghana indicated that a healthy lifestyle could help prevent a lot of non communicable diseases, especially high blood pressure. She advocated for good eating habits, regular exercise and periodic medical checkups.
