The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is set to launch the ‘Homowo Clean-up Campaign’ at Ga-Mashie, starting from Tuesday, July 2, and running until Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

Under the guidance of the Ga Traditional Council, the daily clean-up exercise will take place from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM.The Homowo Clean-up Campaign has been divided into six zones, covering the entire region.

The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council will oversee the initiative in partnership with various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Ministry of Interior, local government authorities, and Zoomlion Ghana Limited.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has called on residents, departments, agencies, corporate organizations, businesses, market leaders, transport unions, opinion leaders, teachers, and students within the designated areas to actively participate in the Homowo Clean-up Campaign.

According to a statement signed by Gilbert Nii Ankrah, Head of Public Affairs, AMA, participation is mandatory, as stated in the Assembly’s By-laws 2017, which will be strictly enforced by Environmental Health Officers (Saman Saman).

All business activities, with the exception of pharmacies, chemical shops, and transport services, are required to be suspended on the designated days of the Homowo Clean-up Campaign. All other businesses must halt operations on those days to facilitate the clean-up exercise.

The Homowo Clean-up Campaign seeks to promote a cleaner and more beautiful environment, while also promoting unity and a sense of responsibility among community members.
