Hopeson Adorye wins in Kpone Katamanso primary

Deputy National Security Coordinator in charge of Airports, Hopeson Adorye has been elected as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Kpone Katamanso constituency.

Hopeson garnered 321 votes as against his closest opponent, William Asante who had 203 votes.

The other aspirants, Prince Dadzie and David Annang polled 56 and 46 votes respectively.

One of the five candidates contesting in the primary, William Asante early on fumed over a fake text message sent to delegates that he had stepped down from the race.

This caused the voting process to cease for a few minutes to enable the election committee of the party to place an announcement through to correct the misconception.

“I want to put it on record without any ambiguity that William Ofosu Asante is the winning candidate…”

“It is not true that anybody has resigned. As the chairman [of elections], I haven’t received any resignation letter from anybody so it is not true,” he said.

Hopeson Adorye earlier in the day arrived with an entourage of Okada riders, who were stopped by Police.

This led to a slight exchange of words between Mr. Adorye and the police over the restrictions on the Okada riders.
