Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has dismissed criticism suggesting his farming background makes him unqualified to lead the Health Ministry.
The remarks follow comments by Dr. David Tenkorang, General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, who questioned the minister’s understanding of hospital operations in light of his response to a recent assault incident at Ridge Hospital.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, August 21, Mr. Akandoh said, “I am a proud farmer, and everybody knows it. Until my appointment I was one of the largest rice farmers in this country.”
He described the criticism as a distraction.
“Please, we have a lot to deliver, and some of these things will not divert our attention. We will continue to do our best for mother Ghana.”
The minister emphasized that professional background should not be a barrier to public service, and reiterated his commitment to addressing challenges in the health sector.
