Former Adentan Municipal Chief Executive, Ebenezer Doku, has clarified that his recent endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was made on behalf of a selected group of former MMDCEs and not the entire caucus.

Earlier this week, Mr. Doku, together with a number of other executives, publicly declared their support for Dr. Bawumia at a press conference in Accra following a meeting with the Vice President. At the event, he stated, “Our endorsement is not merely symbolic, it is a strategic and operational commitment. We will deploy our experience to ensure Dr. Bawumia’s message resonates in every corner of Ghana.”

However, the declaration was quickly countered by Former District Chief Executive for Gomoa East, Solomon Darko Quarm, dismissing that 220 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives had endorsed the Vice President.

Speaking in an interview with Bismark Brown on Happy 98.9FM’s Epa Hoa Daben, Mr. Doku clarified that the endorsement came from a distinct forum within the larger MMDCE caucus.

“We have a forum of former MMDCEs for Dr. Bawumia and our numbers are about 220. So if we’ve organized our press conference and Mr. Quarm says he’s not part of us, he can say that — but we are a subset of former MMDCEs who have declared our support for Dr. Bawumia,” he explained.
