Former captain of Accra Hearts Oak Yaw Amankwah Mireku has tipped midfielder Emmanuel Nettey to perform beyond expectation and carry the club on his shoulders as the Phobians seek to stage a keen challenge for this year’s Ghana Premier League title.

Accra Hearts Oak, one of the most glamorous clubs in Ghana, have won numerous laurels both on the African continent and on the domestic scene but has yet to win a major trophy in the last ten years.

The club celebrated its 109th anniversary on Wednesday and despite reliving its past glory days, the club has targeted ending the trophy-less run in the upcoming Ghana football season that kick starts this weekend.

The rainbow club will travel to play Aduana Stars this Saturday November 14, 2020 at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park in Dorma on match day one of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League.

Despite the tricky challenge ahead, former defender and captain of the teamYaw Amankwah Mireku expects Hearts of Oak to win a trophy this season, tipping energetic midfielder Emmanuel Nettey to be the key player.

“We are expecting win and nothing else, we are expecting victories and nothing else, we are expecting trophies and nothing else because the supporters have yearned for such occasion.” He said.

“The expectation is high and therefore we cannot wait anymore so we are just expecting the players to deliver.

“I think Emmauel Nettey has been my favorite player so far.

“I’m expecting him to deliver more, to do more than what he has done and what we know of him and so we are expecting more from him.” He added.

According to the iconic ex defender, Joseph Esso and Kofi Kordzi leaving the club will not in any way affect the fortunes of the team.

“No player is bigger than Hearts of Oak, Hearts is bigger than any player.

“If Mohammed Polo, Shamo Quaye, Amankwah Mireku who won all the important trophies at the club have all left the team and it is still alive, which player can be bigger than Hearts of Oak?” he quizzed.

Hearts of Oak have bolstered their team with the signing of have highly-rated former striker of FC Samartex Victor Kweku Aidoo, alongside returnees Nuru Sulley and Patrick Razak.

The club also made purchases of Isaac Mensah, Abednego Tetteh, Danjuma Ademola Kuti, Eric Dizan and Auroras graduate Franklyn Owusu who are expected to fill the gap created by the departed Kofi Kordzi and Joseph Esso.
