Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has denied any involvement in illegal mining activities (galamsey).
Chairman Wontumi has dismissed the allegations against him as baseless, claiming they are part of a deliberate effort by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to tarnish his image and that of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He further accused the government, along with the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, of attempting to frame him.
Addressing supporters at the ongoing NPP ‘Thank You Tour’ he said, “When they (NDC) came they were talking about galamsey. But now they want to accuse Chairman Wontumi of being knee deep in galamsey. I want you to know this, Chairman Wontumi does not involve himself in galamsey, and I will never engage in galamsey”.
According to him everything being said by the Lands Minister is lies adding that he has a legitimate business with the appropriate licenses and leases.
