I was never serious about ‘Atia’- Epixode

Award winning Ghanaian reggae-dancehall musician, Epixode has disclosed how he didn’t attach any seriousness to the release of his award winning song ‘Atia’.

According to him, ‘Atia’ was one of the songs he never took serious and didn’t even think he’ll release it.

Speaking to Akua Sika on Happy 98.9FM’s Happy Evening Drive he said, “I remember when I had the melody, that was the only thing ringing in my head and I was singing it to my manager and he didn’t even like the song but I really wanted to do the song. So I went to the studio, did it and boom it was everywhere”.

He explained that although he never thought the song will go as far as it did, he sees the song as a blessing and feels it was time for people to see that side of him as it wasn’t the usual genre of song he was known to produce.

“I can’t say much but all I can say is that where ‘Atia’ has taken me to I’m grateful for. It has opened a lot of doors and given me a lot of opportunities. I’ve also gained a lot of respect from people all over the world because of ‘Atia’” he said.

He added that he sometimes gets overwhelmed when he thinks about how far the song went.

Talking about the inspiration behind the song he noted that the song wasn’t based on his personal story or experience it just came up when he heard the slang ‘Atia donko’.

“I asked myself how to make it sound nice because it’s a slang most females didn’t want to hear”.

“I can’t also take all the credit. I think Kwabena Kwabena also played a big role, big ups to him in making the song what it is today, so I really appreciate him” he said.

‘Atia’ featured highlife legend Kwabena Kwabena. It picked up the Best Reggae/Dancehall Song of the year at the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
