The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted a team of senior police officers who were tasked by President John Dramani Mahama to investigate incidents of violence related to the 2020 and 2024 general elections, in recognition of their distinguished service to the nation.
Speaking at a promotion ceremony held at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, December 24, Mr. Yohuno said the officers worked tirelessly across the country to unravel election-related incidents and were able to compile and submit a comprehensive report through the Minister for the Interior to the Presidency.
According to the IGP, the officers, who hold ranks ranging from Chief Superintendent, Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), demonstrated exceptional commitment and professionalism in carrying out the sensitive national assignment.
“They worked extra hard. They went everywhere in the country to unravel all the incidents and were able to submit a very comprehensive report,” Mr. Yohuno stated, adding that their names were subsequently forwarded to the Police Council for recognition and promotion.
Beyond the election investigation team, the IGP noted that the promotion exercise was also aimed at rewarding gallantry and dedication within the Service, especially at a time when the Police Service continues to suffer losses in the line of duty.
He disclosed that in the past year alone, the Service lost 20 personnel who died while fighting crime and maintaining public safety across the country.
Mr. Yohuno emphasized the need to motivate officers who continue to serve diligently despite the sacrifices made by their fallen colleagues.
“It is very important to reward those who still fight, irrespective of what their colleagues have gone through,” he said.
He further revealed that between 2023 and 2025, the police administration promoted about 40 personnel posthumously in recognition of officers who lost their lives while on duty.
The IGP explained that the promotions announced at the ceremony represented only a sample of many officers who have excelled in the discharge of their duties, assuring that the Police Administration remains committed to recognizing hard work, sacrifice, and professionalism within the Service.
