English-born with Ghanaian heritage, Kobbie Mainoo has revealed why he opted to play for the Three Lions of England ahead of the Black Stars of Ghana.

Kobbie Mainoo who was still eligible to represent the country of his parents Ghana decided to play for England after making his debut in a 1-0 defeat to Brazil at Wembley on March 23, 2024.

The Manchester United midfielder while speaking to the press ahead of England’s game against Denmark in the ongoing 2024 Euros said he is proud of his Ghanaian heritage but the dream had always been to wear the Three Lions jersey.

“I’m very proud of my Ghanaian heritage and there were speculations about me going to play there but it has always been the dream to play for England and I’m happy to be here.”

Kobbie Mainoo made his first international tournament debut in England’s 1-0 win over Serbia in the ongoing 2024 Euros in Germany.
