The competition between the two major political parties namely the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) for parliamentary seats has been a tough one, with about 28 NPP Members of Parliament (MP) losing their seat in Monday’s elections.

Apart from the fact that 41 of them lost the primaries earlier this year thus did not contest for the elections, about 21 of those who have lost their seats are ministers of state or deputy ministers.

The list of MPs who lost the elections in their constituencies on December 7 is as follows:

    7. Barbara Asher Ayisi- Cape Coast North Constituency – Deputy Minster for Works and Housing
    8. Francis Kingsley Cudjoe- Ekumfi Constituency- Deputy Fisheries Minister

    10. Joseph Tetteh- Upper Manya Krobo Constituency- Deputy Eastern Regional Minister

    16. Michael Gyato- Krachi East Constituency- Deputy Minister for Water Resources and Sanitation
    17. Paul Essien- Jomoro Constituency- Deputy Minister for Chieftaincy
    18. Barbara Oteng Gyasi- Prestea Huni Valley Constituency – Minister for Tourism
    19. Kofi Amoakohene- Atebubu Amanten Constituency- Bono East Regional Minister
    20. Gabriel Osei- Tain Constituency
    21. Oko Boye- Ledzokuku Constituency-Deputy Minister for Health
    22. Elizabeth Afoley Quaye- Krowor Constituency- Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture
    23. Haija Alima Mahama- Nalerigu/Gambaga Constituency- Minster for Local Government and Rural Development

The Upper East Regional Minister Paulina Abayanye (who is not an MP) lost the elections in the Navrongo Constituency.
