Chief Executive Officer of Data Bank, Kojo Addae Mensah has advised politicians to build more sporting facilities rather than investing and buying clubs.
Football clubs in the country have received massive interest and are being acquired by politicians, with Dansoman-based Liberty Professionals being the latest.
It was acquired by the current Minister for Railways Development and Member of Parliament for Hohoe, John-Peter Amewu.
Under their new Bank roller, Liberty Professionals Football Club has been renamed Hohoe United Football Club.
Speaking in an interview on Happy FM about the swirling interest of politicians in Ghanaian clubs, Mr. Addae Mensah said, “ I’m beginning to realize that the massive interests football is receiving from politicians is because they can sell their popularity through the game. Politicians investing in football clubs are to become household names in these communities. They are using football as a development tool for their political ambitions”.
“The best they can do is build more infrastructure to develop the sport than investing monies and buying clubs” he added.
