A viral moment with American streamer IShowSpeed has put Ghana’s shea butter industry in the global spotlight.
President John Dramani Mahama revealed at the Ghana-Zambia Business Forum that the streamer’s visit to the Shea Butter Museum generated an unprecedented 20 million internet searches about Ghana and shea butter.
The museum, owned by Ghanaian entrepreneur Hamamat Montia, showcased traditional shea butter production and even gave IShowSpeed a massage using the product.
The experience went viral, highlighting Ghana’s rich culture and potential as a tourist destination, especially among younger audiences.
President Mahama credited IShowSpeed with doing more advertising for Ghana than the country could have done itself, saying, “IShowSpeed did more advertising for us than we could have done ourselves, after he left, I was told there were about 20 million internet searches about Ghana and shea butter.”
