Islamic Scholar, Hafiz Buhari says it is wrong for one to accuse Muslims of practicing the culture of Arabs.
According to him, Islam and the Arabs are two different things altogether. “We often hear people say Muslims are practicing the culture of the Arabs instead of the Ghanaian culture and that’s wrong. But this is not true because Islam is not the same or similar to the culture of Arabs.”
Explaining culture, he said it is basically about the geography of a group of people, what they eat, and the way they dress.
According to him if Islam was the culture of Arabs then why is it that all Arabs are not Muslims.
During an interview with Rev Nyansa Boakwa on the HappyFM Nsem Pii Show, Hafiz Buhari revealed that the Arabs hated the Prophet Mohammed for preaching Islam and saw him move from Mecca to Madina. “Culture emanates from the people and some are imported alright. Arabs have their culture and if Prophet Mohammed preached the culture of the Arabs, they would’ve all accepted it and not hated him.”
He pointed out that the culture of Arabs promotes the worship of gods and the drinking of alcohol which is abhorred in the practice of Islam. “Alcoholism and gambling was the order of the day in the Arab community during Prophet Mohammed’s era. They dwelled on being loan sharks as their primary business and when Prophet Mohammed surfaced, the Islam he preached was against all these and most of them opposed him.”
The scholar also revealed that Islam existed prior to the existence of Prophet Mohammed. “Islam was there right from the time of creation and not the culture of Arabs.”
