Parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo has entreated voters to stand against intimidation from any political actors or aspirants upon refusal to vote for them.

Dumelo’s public advice follows threats allegedly being made by Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Alhassan against a security officer stationed at the University of Ghana Legon, who refused to trade his votes for a bag of rice and oil in a viral video. The security officer said, “For the past eight years I have not received anything from Lydia; this has been brought to me but I vote in this constituency at Bawaleshie. This is politics for you I can’t take this thing and vote for you.”

A security guard at Legon has expressed his concern after receiving a 5kg bag of rice and a bottle of oil from the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, less than two weeks before the elections.

John Dumelo, who took to his X social media page, stated that the security officer upon making such remarks has been confronted by the MP and has demanded for an immediate retraction of his statement or risk losing his job.

The political aspirant has urged voters to be assertive and stand their ground against any advancements of political actors to buy their votes. “I urge voters to reject such intimidation. This is a university community, and individuals must have the courage to stand against oppression.” he stated.
