Supreme Court nominee, Justice Hafisata Amaleboba, has made a compelling case for the appointment of more experienced and highly qualified judges to Ghana’s apex court.
Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Wednesday, June 18, Justice Amaleboba emphasized that the credibility and effectiveness of the Supreme Court are deeply rooted in the depth of legal experience and wisdom its members bring to bear.
“The Supreme Court is not only the final appellate body but also our constitutional court. It requires not just legal knowledge, but mature judgment and insight,” she told the Committee.
Justice Amaleboba stressed that experienced jurists play a critical role in delivering sound legal interpretations and mentoring younger judges, particularly in cases involving complex legal and constitutional issues.
While cautioning against equating age with competence, she noted that years of practice often correlate with a deeper understanding of the law, institutional memory, and the ability to craft rulings that stand the test of time.
“We need seasoned hands at the highest level of our judiciary—judges who can guide the Court with clarity, foresight, and a deep sense of justice,” she added.
Her comments come amid ongoing national discussions about the composition, independence, and performance of the judiciary.
Justice Amaleboba is among new nominees expected to help shape the next phase of the Supreme Court’s legacy.
