A 23-year-old cashier, Andy Tetteh, has been sentenced to three months in prison with hard labour for stealing GH¢8,575 from his employer to stake bet.
Tetteh worked as a cashier at Bingo Bets, a betting company in Adabraka, Accra.
On April 30, 2025, he received stakes totalling GH¢8,575 from customers but failed to account for the funds.
When his manager, Teye Simon Kwabla confronted him about the missing money, Tetteh admitted to using it for betting, hoping to increase the amount. However, he lost everything.
Following a complaint lodged by Mr. Kwabla, police arrested Tetteh and charged him with stealing.
He was subsequently arraigned before the Kaneshie District Court One, where he pleaded guilty to the offence.
Presiding over the case, the judge convicted him on his own plea and sentenced him to three months of imprisonment with hard labour.
The case has raised concern about gambling-related financial crimes and the dangers of excessive betting, particularly among the youth.
