The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced that rehabilitation works on the Kaneshie footbridge are expected to take between six and nine months to complete.
The footbridge was closed on Thursday, April 2, to allow for urgent repairs following concerns over its deteriorating condition.
The project is part of a wider road improvement initiative in the area, which includes drainage upgrades and temporary road closures to facilitate a comprehensive overhaul of the enclave.
Officials note that this will be the first major refurbishment of the footbridge since its construction, highlighting the scale and importance of the intervention.
Upon completion, the Assembly expects the facility to be fully restored, providing a safer and more convenient passage for pedestrians and commuters.
Head of Public Affairs at the AMA, Gilbert Nii Ankrah, disclosed in an interview on Channel One TV on April 6 that the extent of the works reflects the current condition of the bridge and the need to ensure long-term durability.
He added that the rehabilitation is expected to significantly reinforce the structure, with its lifespan projected to exceed ten years.
