Minister of Finance and Economic Planning of Ghana, Kenneth Yaw Ofori Atta has affirmed Ghana’s financial capacity to accelerate the government’s youth oriented project, YouStart.

YouStart is an initiative of the Government of Ghana designed to build an entrepreneurial nation. The initiative was introduced to address the high youth unemployment rate in Ghana.

During the 2024 budget statement presented in Parliament on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, Ofori Atta mentioned that the government is committed to creating more jobs for the greater population of Ghana and has supervised the investment of 200 million Ghana cedis into the initiative. “The government is gradually working towards creating more jobs for the youth of Ghana; we are committing 200 million Ghana cedis into this program set up for the youth; we are also working towards receiving a 150 million dollar support fund from institutions like the World Bank.”

He stated that the 2024 budget seeks to increase support to young entrepreneurs by teaming up with requisite bodies to ensure the implementation of sustainable jobs across all communities. “Government intends to scale up support to young entrepreneurs and fledgling businesses with a singular aim of creating sustainable jobs across all communities; in this view the the Ministry has teamed up with MIDA and in committing GHc 1 billion to ensure that our Enclave project for import substitution is successful.”
