Residents of Kensanso, a fishing community in the Asante Akyem North Municipality, are raising concerns over what they describe as illegal fishing activities on the Afram River by neighbouring communities.
They accuse some fishermen of engaging in illegal trawling, which according to the residents is depleting fish species, polluting the Afram River, and threatening their livelihoods.
The chairman of the community watchdog committee, Kumah Fiakpeh, reveals that several efforts to stop the practice have failed.
He appealed to the Municipal Chief Executive, the Member of Parliament, and the police to intervene immediately and clamp down on the perpetrators.
Some residents also expressed frustration over the impact of the illegal fishing on their income and food security.
