
A Kenyan Member of Parliament, Charles Ong’ondo has been shot dead in the streets of Nairobi by gunmen riding a motorcycle, in what authorities suspect to be an assassination.
A police report indicates that, the attackers had been following Charles Ong’ondo Were’s vehicle when one of them dismounted and fired at him from close range.
Local reports indicated that the opposition MP had raised concern about threats to his life two months earlier.
Following the attack on the evening of Wednesday, April 30, his driver and bodyguard, who were unharmed, transported the wounded MP to the Nairobi Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
The shooting occurred along Ngong Road, near a busy roundabout known for its frequent police presence and surveillance cameras.
President William Ruto has directed the police to launch a comprehensive investigation into the incident, emphasizing those responsible must be held accountable.
