Klottey Korle MP Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings and Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Alfred Ato Allotey Gaisie have urged stronger collaboration to tackle mounting waste at Osu Beach and the surrounding lagoon.

During a visit to the Alata Electoral Area on Thursday May 22, 2025, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings stressed the need for municipal assemblies upstream to take responsibility for their waste management, warning that failure to do so would render local cleanup efforts ineffective.

“We are downstream from a lot of assemblies, and they also have to take the issue of solid waste management seriously,” she said. “Otherwise, this Assembly will be overwhelmed, and it will just become a pointless exercise of constantly cleaning up other people’s risks.”

The MCE, Alfred Ato Allotey Gaisie echoed her concerns, highlighting the need for a coordinated, multi-assembly approach to waste control.

“The waste that we have here is coming from other municipalities. What we need to do as a community is to work and collaborate with the MCEs from neighboring areas. If we don’t address the problem at its source, it will keep flowing into our waters, costing us dearly.”
