The Kumasi High Court has sentenced Dominic Afriyie, also known as “GH,” to 120 years in prison with hard labour and life imprisonment for armed robbery and murder.
Afriyie, 36, was convicted for a violent crime committed on November 20, 2021, when he forcefully entered the residence of Michael Dela Agbo Klu, a 43-year-old pharmacist and building contractor, at gunpoint. He stole two mobile phones, an ASUS Zenbook laptop, and GH₵1,500 in cash before fatally shooting Mr. Klu.
Following intelligence about a planned robbery in the area, police arrested Afriyie and three accomplices on December 31, 2021, in a Toyota Corolla bearing registration AS 5970-20.
A search of the vehicle uncovered two pistols and two single-barrel shotguns. Investigations later confirmed that Afriyie acted alone in the robbery and murder.
Despite pleading not guilty, the seven-member jury convicted him on two counts of robbery and one count of murder.
His sentencing was handed down on Thursday, May 15, by His Lordship Mr. Abdul Razak, ESQ.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs for the Ashanti Regional Police Command, praised the court’s decision, affirming law enforcement’s commitment to ensuring justice and protecting communities.
