Kwaku Boahen mocks NPP’s ‘Waakye’ to Zongo Community initiative

Deputy Communications Director of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kwaku Boahen, has called the Nana Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) initiative to support Zongo women who are into ‘Waakye’ and ‘Sobolo’ making, as a lack of innovation on the part of the sector Minister Mustapha Hamid.

Addressing Parliament on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, the Minister of Inner-city and Zongo Development, Mustapha Hamid, stated that the Ministry has initiated a number of socio-economic programmes that are aimed at developing the human capacities of the people in Zongo communities, to empower them to be economically productive and support the promotion of their indigenous businesses in order to improve household incomes.

In reacting to the Minister’s remarks on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Dabenshow, Mr. Boahen posited that, “Mustapha Hamid has lived in Zongo communities more than 50 years. Is he now going to teach his grandparents how to cook waakye? this just proves their government lacks innovation.”

He also suggested that what government ought to be doing is to create the enabling environment for economic growth.

“Presently people cannot buy waakye, there is no money. Nana Addo has collapsed several companies and now he wants to teach people in the Zongo communities how to prepare their own delicacy,” he stressed.

According to Mr. Boahen, the ruling government has failed the Zongo Communities with false promises and the creation of a Ministry that has not delivered on its mandate.
