Majority leader in parliament, Alexander Afenyo Markin has clarified that Obuasi West MP Kwaku Kwarteng, has neither been removed as Chairman of the Finance Committee nor resigned, but has rather been elevated to a different rank.

Mr Kwarteng will now become the Majority Spokesperson/Chairman of the Economy Committee, according to the new standing orders, which has made provision for an Economy Committee, as a standalone committee from the Finance Committee.

The majority leader’s clarification follows misinformation in the media after he announced on the floor a shake-up of the majority leadership.

It was reported that the chairman had resigned, but the majority leader explained that Mr. Kwarteng’s new position is an elevation based on his performance so far in the areas of economy.

Addressing the press in his Office, Mr. Afenyo Markin emphatically stated that looking at the record of Mr. Kwarteng right from the time of President Kufour he is the best person to represent the NPP on matters relating to the Economy facing off the NDC in this election period.
