The Chief Priest of La Traditional Council, Nii Yemo Obroni VII has warned the government against selling lands belonging to the Ga Dangme people. Nii Yemo Obroni VII stated that the government has been unlawfully selling their lands and properties without the consent of the traditional authorities. The Chief Priest joined hundreds of protestors on June 18, 2024 in Accra to register their displeasure against the sale of SSNIT hotels to Rock City Hotel Limited, owned by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Bryan Acheampong. Speaking to Happyghana.com he urged the government to return any lands that have been sold to private entities.
“I am the chief priest of the land they are unlawfully taking our property without the alodial masters our consent, I have to fight for my rights because I have kids coming. We need to tell the government that any land belonging to La, Ga Dangme, should not be touched. They should return our lands to us, we do not want any problem with them,” he emphasized.

The Chief Priest also accused the government of working with the Lands Commission to sell off lands in Tse-Addo, Trade Fair, and some hotels in the area.

“Government is collaborating with the Lands Commission, and this Commission they are the worst and useless commission. They have been selling all our lands”.
