Uruguay sensation Cavani latched onto a powerful kick in the 88th minute from Martial’s service for the game’s first goal.
A tense, tight affair in front of a smattering of fans at Goodison Park saw both sides struggle for clear attempts as the game progressed before Cavani rescued the visitors.
As Everton tried to find an equaliser on a final set piece, Martial sealed the win with a goal on a break-away for the game’s final sequence.
The first half saw a sprinkling of chances from either side, with Cavani forcing an early double save from keeper Robin Olsen. The hosts’ best look came from Gylfi Sigurdsson’s free-kick which forced a save from Dean Henderson.
