Let’s join forces to stop Mahama in 2020 – Ursula Owusu advises NPP women

The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Ursula Owusu Ekuful has called on the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to jealously guard the power it has by working together to stop former President Mahama from pulling a comeback.

Mrs Owusu Ekuful, on Friday, brought together some leading women of the governing New Patriotic Party to discuss ways to empower them.

Speaking at the forum dubbed, ‘The Ablekuma West Women’s Conference’ to discuss ways to empower women folks in the NPP, Mrs Owusu Ekuful who is also the Minister for Communications spoke of the need to stop Mahama from returning to power, observing that he destroys whatever he touches.

According to her, the NPP is the only party that can lead the development of Ghana.

“We are determined to guard this power that we have jealously. Together we will fight to protect it, the power that Ghanaians gave us. The worst NPP government is better than NDC’s best,” Mrs Owusu Ekuful said.

“Let’s go into the 2020 campaign,” she continued “with a sense of belonging and the notion that your problem is mine, mine is yours and continue to sit on the seat of power till thy kingdom come.”

Cautioning the participants against act that will endanger the chances of the party in 202, Mrs Owusu Ekuful said: “If somebody is complaining in our polling stations we, the polling station executives, especially the females, it is our responsibility to explain government policies to them so that they will understand that since this government came to power unprecedented development has touched every home in this country.”

“No one can deny that they don’t anybody who has benefited from free SHS. Every home now has stable power apart from the normal light off.  That one is normal. We haven’t slept in darkness for two years under load shedding. So there’s no dumsor. There’s light off, but there’s no dumsor. Light off was here before dumsor came.

“None of you can say that you don’t know anybody who is in nursing training who has benefitted from the restored nursing trainee allowance, who has got some job in the public service when there was a freeze on employment before we came to power. So please, when others are complaining let’s explain government policies to them and let them understand that it is easy to destroy…it is very…very easy to destroy things but very difficult to build a good foundation and to build a good building and that’s what the government of Nana Akufo-Addo is doing,” she said.

Former President Mahama was selected by the NDC earlier this year to lead the party into the 2020 general election with the singular task of regaining the presidency he lost to President Akufo-Addo in 2016.

Mr Akufo-Addo polled 53.9% of the total valid votes, while John Mahama managed 44.4%, the worse so far for an incumbent President.

Delivering his victory speech, Mahama declared the NDC would reoccupy the seat of government after the 2020 elections, saying: “Tonight, I want to serve notice to Ghana that from the outcome of this election, the NDC is strong.

“The NDC is united. The NDC is poised for victory in 2020. And nothing, absolutely nothing can stop our march towards [the] Flagstaff House.”
