Friends and well wishers of the Minister Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama have refurbished the Female Infirmary of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital in Accra.
Through the benevolence of the minister and her friends, the female ward has had it plumbing problems fixed and its toilet and bath facilities put in better shape.
Hajia Alima Mahama and her friends refurbished the dilapidated female ward at the cost of one hundred and ninety thousand Ghana Cedis.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony of the refurbished ward to the management of the Accra Psychiatric hospital, the Minister said she was touched a news item, she saw on Joy News on the situation prevailing at the hospital.
So I decided to do something for the hospital on my birthday to bring some reprieve to the patients and staff at the ward.’
According to her, even though government is doing its best to correct some of these situations prevailing in some of the hospitals across the country, there is the need for corporate organizations to also come to aid of such institutions across the country.
‘I am appealing to the corporate organizations to support such institutions, when their plights are brought to the fore by the media.
I want to celebrate with you to encourage others to come to your aid and am hoping this will motivate others to do more for you in the coming years she added.
She took the opportunity to commend the management of Multimedia Group of company, operators of Joy News television for letting the voice of the voiceless be heard.
Receiving the keys to the refurbished ward, the Deputy Director of Nursing Services (DDNS) at the hospital, Beatrice Nyarko thanked the Minister and her friends for the gesture done the hospital.
Now ward nurses will have the dignity of changing their clothes after closing from their night duties.
Hitherto, nurses could not change themselves after duty because the toilet facilities were nothing to write home about.
It was in a sorry state, we thank the minister and her friends for their assistance to the hospital.
She called corporate organizations to come to the aid of the hospital as its lacks common amenities for its day to day administration.
