The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced that it will commence local gold processing and refining in October 2025, a move described as a major milestone in Ghana’s mining sector reforms.
Speaking at the 2025 Minerals and Mining Convention in Accra, GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Samuel Gyamfi, said the initiative is designed to boost value addition and reduce Ghana’s dependence on foreign refineries.
“This is a significant milestone in our quest to retain more value from Ghana’s natural resources. Refining gold locally before export will not only enhance revenue but also create jobs and ensure stronger linkages with other sectors of the economy,” Mr. Gyamfi stated.
GoldBod is collaborating with the Bank of Ghana and accredited domestic refineries to roll out the initiative. The project is expected to strengthen Ghana’s gold value chain and attract increased investment into the sector.
