Former President John Mahama has congratulated the Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic Rt. Hon. Alban Sumani Kingsford Bagbin.

“The election of Speaker Bagbin affirms what a great democracy we can build for ourselves and how dialogue and consensus building can make us even stronger as a nation,” Mahama wrote on his twitter page.

He also congratulated the NDC caucus in parliament for their commitment and called on the new parliament to investigate the invasion of the military in the chambers of parliament during the election of the speaker.

“Parliament must conduct an investigation into the two incidents and exact appropriate sanctions. Congratulations to the leadership of the NDC Caucus and the Caucus members for your dedication and commitment.”

It had been a marathon of confusion on the floor of Parliament right from the dissolution of the 7th Parliament through to the election of a new speaker for the 8th Parliament.
