The Minority in Parliament has accused President John Mahama of violating Section 4(1) of the Presidential Office Act, which requires appointments to the Office of the President to be made in consultation with the Council of State.

They contend that the President has made appointments to his office despite the Council of State not being constituted, without clarifying that these appointments are provisional and subject to the Council’s establishment.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, January 22, Okaikwei Central MP Patrick Boamah called on the President to revoke the appointment letters and correct the procedural breach.

“We believe that the appointment of the Cabinet Secretary was not made in accordance with the constitution. We are asking that the proper procedures be followed,” he said.

The Minority also expressed concern over the President’s appointment of an envoy to the Sahel region, arguing that Ghana, as a member of ECOWAS, has no historical ties with the Sahel states.

They accused the President of unilaterally altering the country’s foreign policy and called for an explanation regarding the decision.

“Ghana is a non-aligned nation with respect to the Sahel nations, so we want to understand the rationale behind this foreign policy shift,” they emphasized.
